Your Hosts

Your hosts and owners, Rachel Duell and Kyle Davidson, reside in separate quarters to the retreat with their three school age children. Both from Otago families, they have good regional and local knowledge to share.

Kyle is a surfer, and has an excellent understanding of New Zealand geography and current weather conditions. Outdoor adventures are always on the calendar and there are many stories to share.

Rachel is part Ngai Te Rangi Iwi descent (New Zealand Maori tribe), born in Dunedin and South Island raised. New Zealand wildlife and conservation, fare gardens and heritage seed preservation are topics of interest.

Being able to enjoy the natural environment underlies their lifestyle and working towards self-sustained living is deliberated often.

Pet birds you may see roaming the property at times, are Peking ducks, heritage breed chickens (afternoon free range allowed) and peafowl - Peter the Peacock and his partner Mary (usually with 'pea- babies' over summer).

Hooker Sea Lion wildlife on beach

"This was a pristine environment where humans were minor players and where the wild animals were totally in control. We were simply viewers with a great respect for the true inhabitants of this lonely and wild beach."
